Lync Server 2013 Multitenant Hosting Pack Resources

New Lync 2013 downloads
Microsoft has released updates and downloads for Lync Server 2013.
They are the excellent Planning Tool http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36823, the unmissable Resource Kit tools http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36821 and CU1 For Lync 2013 with some interesting added functionality http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36820. Also amongst the downloads are the client SDK http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36824 and the whiteboard archiving viewer http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36822.
Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer
A new, single url for all the remote connectivity analyzer tools. It allows for testing of Exchange, Lync & Office 365.
A great improvement in the Lync version is the updated verification method. The code is a lot easier to read and it is now valid for 30 minutes.
I also like to use these tools for pre and post update checks and in other situations where you need to provide proof of functionality.
MSPL-RespondWithRing
Microsoft SIP Processing Language (MSPL) is a great way to extend the possibilities of Lync, and there are plenty of resources available to help you get started.
I recently talked about MSPL during a training, and was asked to share the example I demoed. Originally it was used as a work around for the ringback issue as explained in http://blogs.technet.com/b/dougl/archive/2009/07/30/ring-back-workaround-for-ocs.aspx. It also shows a way to document the changes made from within PowerShell.
Requirements:
- Administrative permissions to install the script
- PoolFQDN name (pool01.contoso.com)
- RespondWithRinging.am file from http://blogs.technet.com/b/dougl/archive/2009/07/30/ring-back-workaround-for-ocs.aspx
On a FrontEnd server:
- Create a folder MSPL with subfolder Support and copy the RespondWithRinging.am file to the MSPL folder.
- In RespondWithRinging.am adjust the appUri to the URI used in the configuration, www.contoso.com/RespondWithRinging, (the default names could be used, but this prevents confusion).
In the Lync Server Management Shell:
- Use Start-Transript to log your actions.
- Backup the current configuration: Export-CsConfiguration -FileName C:\MSPL\Support\Config.zip
- Optional: Use Get-CSServerApplication to check which applications are currently configured. Get-CsServerApplication -Filter “service:*:pool01.contoso.com*” > C:\MSPL\Support\Applications01.txt
Next check the priority of the UserServices because this application needs to have a higher priority than UserServices.
- Get-CsServerApplication -Filter “Service:Registrar:pool01.contoso.com/UserServices”

Next create the application with the New-CsServerApplication commandlet with the priority of the UserServices (3 in this case). This results in a priority of 4 for the UserServices.

In deze sessie zal Jaap wat dieper ingaan op de autodiscover materie en welke rol het speelt in een Exchange 2007 / Outlook 2007 en hoger omgeving. Ook zal de rol van SSL certificaten worden besproken en waarom je soms van die vage “server name does not match the name on the certificate” foutmeldingen krijgt.
Lync Loadbalancing – Steven van Houttum
In deze sessie gaat Steven uitgebreidt in op de werking, voordelen en beperkingen van DNS loadbalancing. Verder wordt er gekeken naar het inrichten van Hardware Load Balancers, al of niet in combinatie met DNS LB.

Lync Phone status change option
I noticed that this is something that quite a lot of people didn’t know about: the February 2012 update for the Lync IP Phones not only solved some issues, but also added the option to change your availability status.
Lync vragenuur 11 januari 2012
In samenwerking met Microsoft Nederland organiseren we vanuit de UCUG.nl een maandelijks Lync vragen uur. De eerstvolgende staat gepland voor woensdag 11 januari, uiteraard via Lync. Deze keer is er alleen een avondeditie, dit in verband met de vakantie periode. De volgende keer houden we er nog een keer twee om te zien wat het beste aanslaat. Aan deelname zijn zoals gebruikelijk geen kosten verbonden.
Dit keer hanteren we geen specifiek onderwerp, maar houden we meer een open vragenuur. Er zijn meerdere Lync experts aanwezig om vragen te kunnen beantwoorden.
Vragen hierover, of over andere Lync gerelateerde onderwerpen kunnen eventueel van tevoren per mail ingdiend worden naar steven@ucug.nl. Ook feedback over het vragenuur is zeer welkom.
